African Class

Mwabu is an educational technology company focused on Africa, which is aiming to revolutionise education on the continent by creating interactive curricula, as well as the content and devices for the modern African classroom. De Charles worked with Mwabu to bring functionality, aesthetics and cost-effectiveness to classroom storage furniture.

“Seeing function overemphasised and too little consideration given to aesthetics, in the education space and many other industries on the continent, Mwabu wanted to bring something distinct yet appropriate to their proposition.”

Since their founding Mwabu has focused on deeply revolutionising education from every angle; from the curriculum and its delivery tools, to the training of both pupil and teacher. When deemed necessary based on real users’ data and feedback, they have invested significant resources into the research and development of bespoke software and hardware to better the classroom and learning experience.
Following a similar vein, when they sought classroom furniture that could store and induction charge their e-learning tablets, as well as hold the classroom projector and solar-charged batteries, they engaged De Charles as they wanted a company that could balance functionality and design, with respect for the Southern African classroom environment. De Charles worked with Mwabu’s team in London and Zambia to combine their opinions and learnings with industrial design expertise, to produce an appropriate yet distinctly different physical product.
